Gravity Tunnel

Gravity Tunnel was recorded ca. 1988/89 and originally released in 1991. As the album cover Art portrays, the record merges two musical places home to Miguel Kertsman: Recife, Brazil and New York City. The result is a broad and fun musical journey with African-Brazilian percussion, berimbaus, and ensembles spontaneously merging with soulful vocals, and of course lots of vintage keyboards! Where echoes of Brazilian Music, Classical, Jazz and Symphonic Prog Rock intertwine… A mighty Rio de Janeiro Samba School meeting with analog keyboards and screaming guitars? No problem, check out the title track!

A stellar group of Jazz, Broadway and Pop-Rock musicians joined Miguel (composer, keyboards) in the recording of Gravity Tunnel:

Lillias White, singer / vocals (Emmy / Tony Award Winner, Broadway Star – “Fela!,” “The Life,” Actress)
Café, percussion (percussionist w/ Paul Simon, Steve Winwood, Roberta Flack)
Romero Lubambo, guitar (guitarist w/ Dianne Reeves, Winton Marsalis, Airto Moreira & Flora Purim, etc.)

“Composer and musician Miguel Kertsman lets us hear music rooted in European classical traditions and Brazilian folklore…An unbelievable Journey through time and Brazil’s music history…
Overall, this music remains indescribable and defies categorization.”
